Today Matters

What you do daily, matters!

What you do now, matters!

Too often, our focus is on improving our tomorrow and future and not on what we are doing today.

Personally, this is something I think about a lot. I worry about the future and about tomorrow. Often the thoughts are more frustrations and worry, a bit of anxiety with a good dose of concern! I find myself asking :

“How will I pay this account?

How will I care for my children’s and my family’s needs?

Where will I find this money?”

Yet, Jesus told us not to worry about what we will eat, or what we will wear….

The words of Jesus in Matthew 6:34 tell us

“That’s why I’m telling you to stop worrying about your life—what you will eat or what you will drink—or about your body—what you will wear. Life is more than food, isn’t it, and the body more than clothing?  (ISV Matthew 6:25)

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself, each day has enough trouble of its own.”

As much as Jesus tells us to “Not worry about tomorrow”, I still tend to worry. No matter how much I try to ‘keep my faith’ and NOT worry, I do!!  I worry about what my family will eat, I worry about bills, clothing, shelter…Yes, I worry! Usually, this worry leads to procrastination and an ‘action paralysis’ where I do nothing but worry. Sometimes, the worry begins pressing down on me so much, that I am stressed, angry and not a nice person to be around. Ever felt that way?

At this point, my faith drops to a level where warning lights start flickering furiously and my alarm bells are ringing…. but Jesus tells us not to worry about tomorrow, to focus on the now and today and in this moment  to “Seek God, Seek Gods Kingdom and to Seek Gods Righteousness. Jesus teaches us in Matthew 6:33-34 (ESV) to

“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Scripture  provides us with a divine wisdom providing us with a clear direction of what we should be doing. This wisdom is not only rooted in a faith of what God can do, but also encourages  us to place our focus on God, allowing our heart and mind to settle, thus creating a conducive environment for ‘wiser’ decision making.

Even 2000 years ago, Jesus recognized the effect of stress on a person .The instruction from Jesus provides us with both a spiritual benefit and blessing as well as encouragement that lifts our emotional and psychological state. A state of being, that when we recognize the proper  hierarchy of life, we become ‘more at peace’ and discover a contentment in God and Gods way and then to focus on life around us.This doesn’t mean that we are to become “ so spiritually minded that we are no earthly good” but to find ‘perfect peace’ in the storm in the presence of God.

Change your perspective

Seeking Gods Kingdom allows us to recognize and seek out the eternal promise of Gods way whilst in the midst of earthly problems and challenges. As David Guzik writes that “ because the Kingdom of God is so greatly superior to earthly pursuits, it deserves our attention.” (2020, Enduring word Commentary) and so we discover more of the Divine.

“When we seek God’s face, Gods presence and Gods will,

our decision making becomes guided and filled by the divine.”

Isaiah-26-3

Seek God, so that even in the midst of your problems and daily challenges, you experience His grace, Perfect Peace and Wisdom.Do this daily…

Shalom,
